You Wanna Get Big Right?
I’m a fitness enthusiast, so fintess is basically becoming my whole personality. Even in my animation work.
One day I was mindlessly scrolling on Instagram and I saw this reel from this guy Mocca. I was blown away by his work because it was relatively simple (simple, NOT easy) but it had such a great impact on me. Text animation accompanied by some smooth shape and color transitions, everything served with a nice (probably) AI generated audio. The message was nice and it resonated with peopl, both on the aesthetic level and the message level. I thought “I want to do something like that”.
With experience I’ve realized that my strong points are simple, smooth looking animations. Text animation in particular is what I enjoy the most, especially if that text had to go in synch with an audio. It’s just sooooo satisfying. I immediately started looking for some interesting audios to use, of course, about fitness. With a little bit of research I found this one.
I downloaded the audio, edited the interesting parts (I had to make it fast and straight to the point) and immediately started thinking “this would be such a great creatine ad!”. We all know that memes go viral in a matter of seconds so I thought of adding the extra touch and make it a somewhat creatine ad by adding some illustration in the end (plus I’m an illustrator too so heck yeah I’ll add some illustration work).

The Design Part
I wanted to go the realistic route at first. Took a photo of a muscular guy and tried to sketch it out the best I could, holding a tub of creatine like a greek God, but I soon realized that’s not what I’m good at. I know I’m good at stylized, cute characters, so I changed direction fast.
I chose a font pair that I liked, a nice limited palette, a few styleframes and it was time to animate!
This is one of my favorite projects. It’s simple but it looks nice, which is what I love. An interesting message to tell, a limited but impactful color palette, some cute illustration and the rest is left to make it move nice and smooooth. Sometimes the best things are the simplest ones.
And you? Have you taken your creatine today?
